Sharpening the Blade

Honda took the wraps off a track-focused Fireblade SP edition at the EICMA Show today which features Ohlins suspension, revised engine internals and Brembo monobloc front brake calipers.

The 999.8cc inline four-cylinder engine gets the same updated cylinder head as the standard 2014 CBR1000RR Fireblade, with improved inlet/exhaust gas flow and combustion efficiency, and the extra 2.6bhp peak power boost. However it features factory-matched pistons and rods.

Ohlins, rather than Showa, forks are 43mm and use revised top and bottom yokes with the former CNC machined to give improved rigidity while the rear subframe doesn't have to support the inconvenience of a pillion and is therefore lighter. The shock is Ohlins' TTX36 model.
